Kids at Heart serves all eligible patients, regardless of diagnosis or other treatment options. Through concurrent care, pediatric patients can elect the hospice benefit while still receiving curative treatment.
Hospice eligibility is determined by prognosis rather than diagnosis. Hospice eligibility is defined as a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course. Kids at Heart serves any patient who is clinically eligible for the benefit.
For pediatric patients, Medicaid and most private insurers allow concurrent care. With concurrent care, you can elect to receive the comforting treatment of hospice while still seeking curative treatment. We work with you and your child to ensure that our care is supportive of your unique needs.
